Cassius – The Sound of Violence (remixes)

Featuring the album Au Rêve, “The Sound of Violence” was first released in 2002 by french duo Cassius, also known by the monikas Philipe Zdar and Boom Bass. Claiming to have made over 400 remixes, the track is one of their singles to reach number one in the United States dance charts and one of those songs you get stuck in your head for a while once you hear it, combining early 00’s electropop elements to Cassius’ black music influences.

As the retromania grows amongst us, the series of remixes gets full attention on beatport and asured place in yours truly, the pitchpie selection. The song’s original remake and the eclectic pack of remixes go from Fedde LeGrand to Luciano, also featuring reggae and dubstep mixes. You can download the whole thing by clicking right here. London is alive and breathing!

Ok I know I’ve been away for a few days but this post is gonna be worth it.

I’ve arrived in London a few days ago during a massive bank holiday due to Kate and William’s Royal wedding. So we went out for this clubbing tour on sunday. Everything was setlled for us to go to Secretsundaze, traditional secret venue party made by Giles Smith, where Kyle Hall had been confirmed in the line-up but o-oh, change of plans. My (also brazilian) friend Wesley Razzy who is a local DJ and promoter said we should go to some other parties instead. Well, the line-ups were pretty damn convincing and my name was on the list, so, why not? We went with a group of friends to four amazing parties and found out about some more happening during the day. So here’s why London still got it.

First stop: Mixmag Day+Night Party at Brick Lane featuring Nomi Ruiz (from Hercules & Love Affair), Mighty Mouse (no good), Josef (from Wolf+Lamb), the amazing talented Nina Kraviz and Radioslave. The venue was set in an abbandoned tube station and everything was still pretty improvised, ducktape style. When wesley told me he was into this party I thought it was a great idea, the day before I’d been to Brick Lane the other day and saw millions of cool people sorrounded by flyers. There was a grafitti wall, a chill-out area playing deep house and a terrace wich by 6 o’clock was completelly busy. The croud was really nice diverse and the soundsystem was perfect. There was disco at the starts and tech-house in the end.

Second Stop: Split Milk with Layo & Bushwacka 4-hour set. But before we actually got there, we passed by this rooftop day party and found out Tom Demac and Jay Sheppard were on the decks. Moving on to L&B, it was incredibly the best tech-house set of the day (as a best set it looses only for miss Nomi Ruiz who dressed/loooked nothing like this but she mixed and chose the tracklist with perfection). The soundsystem was ok and the crowd wasn’t my favourite bunch, but the music was fantastic so we stayed for almost 2 hours. Then back to Mixmag for Nina Kraviz and off to…

Third Stop: Fabric. It was my first time in one of the world’s most infamous techno club and I must say, that place screams industrial electronic music. From the spaces to the dancefloor, from the lights to the toilets, it’s 100% techno. And there it was: Sei A and Marc Romboy vs. Stephan Bodzin got their hands dirty on room 2, while Miss Kittin and WetYrSelf! residents played a cooler vibe on the main room. Great call for a chilly spring night out. In the meantime, UK deep house star Maya Jane Coles was DJing on Hypercolour party at the Nest. Should we go there as well? Oh, well, this time everyone decided for me, they felt like going to…

Fourth Stop: Lo*kee, a small label starting at London’s Shoreditch area, with techno oldie Kenny Larkin. Just another warehouse party but, wait. That was my first one. We arrived at 3AM and everything was already happening. The structure was good and the soundsystem as well, but nothing special really. There’s when it hit me that Sasha was playing at Ministry of Sound. Bummer.

It was an intensive day/night out, and I’m hoping to bring moreof these home with me. Specially some indie stuff too, next time.

Well it’s cool to realize that the city still has this massive underground scene, unlike what we see from the other side of the atlantic. I just knew it, and I’m ready to experience and tell you guys what’s hot.


Todd Terje “Ragysh” EP

Since his fantastic debut with house-friendly disco ‘Eurodans’ in 2004, Norwegian producer Terje Olsen has made quite a difference in the space-future disco scene. I wonder if the mustache has something to do with it… you can learn a bit more about his disco work here.

Rated 4 1/2 by Resident Advisor (probably the highest they ever rated an album before) Ragysh EP was released by Running Back Records, in early april. The compilation features 4 tracks, which you can preview at Juno.

The great part is that I fell in love with two of them, and those you can listen and download directly from PitchPie’s soundcloud, and you are very much welcome:


Introducing: Visionquest

Visionquest ‘collective’ features 4 most tallented artists from the north-american techno crib, Detroit: Seth Troxler, Shaun Reeves, Lee Curtiss and Ryan Crosson. As DJs and performers, in combination or solo, they command dancefloors with cosmic sounds, tracky bass bangers and a heavily stylized tone that they’ve cultivated from working together.

About the chosen name, Shaun goes pretty deep: “Visionquest has been something that has been happening throughout the course of mankind’s evolution of conciousness. In many ancient civilizations, and some indigenous tribes still present to this day, it is seen as a right of passage towards a new beginning. Sometimes it is used for healing purposes but more often involves an individual going alone into an unknown wilderness while fasting, seeking an vision or sign that will define the future course of their life.” Sort of reminds me of MGMT somehow.

The group has also put an effort on creating the Visionquest label. “Where The Freaks Have No Name” produced by Benoit & Sergio, was released on december 31st 2010. Have a listen:

Their first debut live will happen this weekend at fabric London, where Nicolas Jaar and Bernoit&Sergio will also be playing live acts within the next days (and you can cry on your fluffy pillow for not living in London). Cut Copy – Zonoscope

I’m such a huge Cut Copy fan that this release has almost passed by me. The thing is: some blogs are talking reviews, some are announcing the official release, and others are crazy about leaks so, really, I have no idea if this has been released or not. But who cares? Well, since the (ravishing) cover has been out last year, about september I guess, I’ve been craving to know more and more about the new album. They released a few tracks before the “grand opening” like Where I’m Going and Take Me Over, which didn’t impress me too much. Then I just sat back and waited for the release. But who would imagine it would be such a mess? Anyway, the aussie band has saved the best for last and despite some tracks aren’t that good, others ended up being incredible. Unlike their former work In Ghost Colors, Zonoscope‘s tracks don’t come together as a logical mixtape. Less electro and more groove combined with organic elements make Cut Copy’s “Uhhh Uhhh”s even greater!

As a gift, I uploaded my favorite tracks for you guys to download for free: the long and structured  Sun God and techno-ish Blink And You’ll Miss A Revolution. Don’t be selfish and share them with your buddies.

Moby – Be The One EP

Probably as a promotional taste of his new album Destroyed, comming out in May, Moby has released his newest EP, Be The One, on post-Grammy / pre-Brit mess (wich has become a sort of trend, since Radiohead and Britney Spears have done the same). It is available at soundcloud and has 3 tracks: Be The One, Sevastopol and Victoria Lucas.

Here’s a pretty cool video made for the song Victoria Lucas, it’s actually a home video Moby has recorded in LA. There’s also one for Be The One but it’s kinda creepy. You won’t be seing it in my blog, sorry.
